Janice Brown Appointed to CCDC Board of Directors

Mayor Jerry Sanders has nominated Janice Brown for appointment to the Centre City Development Corporation’s Board of Directors. Ms. Brown’s nomination was confirmed by the City Council on August 8, 2006.

Ms. Brown is the founder of Brown Law Group, a six-year old law firm focused on business and employment litigation. In addition to employment matters, Ms. Brown also handles intellectual property, fraud and contract cases for a variety of clients. Ms. Brown has tried numerous cases to verdict and argued successfully before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, including class actions.

Prior to opening her firm, Ms. Brown served as a partner at Seltzer Caplan Wilkins & McMahon, joining Seltzer Caplan in 1998, becoming partner in 1992 and part of the firm’s executive committee in 1995. While at Setlzer Caplin, Ms. Brown headed up the firm’s business development committee.

Previously, Ms. Brown served as a trial attorney at the Department of Justice, Tax Division in Washington, D.C. While at the Justice Department, she tried lawsuits on behalf of the United States in venues throughout the western United States, including Iowa, Colorado, Nebraska, California and Texas.

Ms. Brown holds a Juris Doctor from Gonzaga Law School and a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Montana. Ms. Brown has been a member of the California State Bar since 1984.

Ms. Brown has received numerous honors and awards throughout her career, including: the Department of Justice Trial Lawyer of the Year in 1987; California Association of Black Lawyers Lawyer of the Year 1995; San Diego Women Who Mean Business in the Law 1999; San Diego County Bar Association Diversity Professional of the Year in 2003; and Witkin Legal Professional of the Year award in 2003.

In addition, Ms. Brown has pursued many personal and civic interests. She is in the House of Delegates for the American Bar Association, a Master with Enright Inn of Court, Past President of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association and a Vice President of the San Diego County Bar Association. Ms. Brown resides in Council District 3 in the community of Kensington.
