Brown Law Group, a San Diego-based law firm that specializes in representing businesses in a wide range of employment matters and commercial litigation, is proud to announce that it has been invited to participate in the San Diego County Bar Association’s Diversity Fellowship Program and that it will welcome Diversity Fellow and first-year law student, Kevonna Ahmad, as a law clerk this summer.

Created in 2009, the Diversity Fellowship Program provides an opportunity for diverse, first-year law students in San Diego County to work at a law firm or corporate legal department during their summer break. The Program introduces employers to highly-qualified, diverse law students who are carefully chosen after an extensive and competitive application and interview process. Out of hundreds of applicants, only 17 students are selected to participate in the Program and interview with the participating employers.

“We are extremely excited to add Brown Law Group this year to the growing list of prominent San Diego-based law firms participating in our award-winning Diversity Fellowship Program,” said Stacie Patterson, of the Law Office of Stacie L. Patterson and director for the San Diego County Bar Association’s Diversity Fellowship Program. “We know that Brown Law Group will provide Diversity Fellow, Kevonna Ahmad, with an extraordinary opportunity to develop her legal skills and to learn from the diverse group of accomplished attorneys at the firm.”

“Brown Law Group is thrilled to have been selected to participate in the Diversity Fellowship Program and to have Kevonna join us this summer,” said Janice P. Brown, founding partner and attorney at Brown Law Group. “Our firm has always been committed to promoting diversity and fostering opportunities to mentor young attorneys and law students in San Diego. We were very impressed with all of the students we interviewed through the Program, and we could not be happier that we matched with Kevonna, whose resume and enthusiasm stood out immediately.”

Ms. Ahmad is currently completing her first year at California Western School of Law, where she was the recipient of the Robert J. Grey Diversity Scholarship. In 2015, Ms. Ahmad graduated cum laude from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in public administration. While attending San Diego State University, Ms. Ahmad focused on legal-based internships by working with the City of San Diego City Attorney’s Office as an investigative intern, and with the County of San Diego Code Compliance as a student worker.

“Participating in the Diversity Fellowship Program has been an amazing experience and has enabled me to hone my research, writing, and interviewing skills, while allowing me to make meaningful connections throughout the San Diego legal community,” said Ms. Ahmad. “I am very excited to have matched with Brown Law Group and I am eager to join the firm’s outstanding team. I have no doubt that I will gain invaluable experience as this summer.”
