COVID-19: Unemployment Benefits

April 7, 2020 – Part-time workers or those who are self-employed, including gig workers, contractors, and freelancers, are now eligible to apply for unemployment benefits. The amount each person receives will depend upon which state they live in, but those who apply and receive benefits should expect $600 on top of what their state provides until July 31. Workers can receive payments for up to 39 weeks. Those who are unable to work due to caring for someone with coronavirus or who have it themselves can apply. The US Chamber of Commerce Provides Small Business Owners with Much-Needed Clarity

March 30, 2020 – On Friday, the CARES Act allocated $350 billion dollars to help businesses weather the financial impact of Covid-19. The US Chamber of Commerce has provided this easy to read flow chart to explain who is eligible; and how to apply for financial assistance. Who does the Governor deem essential?

March 23, 2020 – California’s Public Health Officer has issued more specific guidance on which employees and businesses are considered “essential” to maintaining critical infrastructure and thus excepted from the Governor’s stay-at-home order. Gov. Newsom Issues State-wide Stay at Home Order

March 20, 2020 – On Thursday, March 19, California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a state-wide order to all Californians to stay home except for essential travel to grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations.
